For the discerning wine aficionado. The Matakana Estate Elingamite Limited Edition 2013 is a wine that is elegant, full bodied and rich in textures and flavours.
This wine is made from Syrah grapes grown in the renowned Gimblett Gravel area situated in Hawkes Bay. Our winemaker has created a wine which embodies the elegance of Phone-style Syrahs, yet captures the distinctive personality of the Hawkes Bay terroir. The process begins with extensive care of the grapes selected for this wine. Nurtured, then picked with care, the grape juice is allowed to rest with its skins to gently extract the maximum flavour and colour from the fruit. The wine is then matured in predominately new French oak barriques for 12 months, adding distinctive yet integrated oak character.
The result is a wine with a deep colour, heady aromas of aniseed, blueberry and smokiness. Intense fruit flavours of blueberries, red currants and raspberries are layered with complex savoury and spicy characters and fine round tannins. A long, soft finish with fracious fruit lift completes the experience.
